Teiji Dachi is a karate stance where the feet are positioned to resemble the shape of the letter T. The heel of the front foot almost touches the middle of the back foot at a right angle. This position is similar to the L stance but features a much narrower gap between the two feet. It is often used in traditional forms to transition between larger movements or to prepare for a sudden turn. The weight is centered more toward the back to keep the front of the body protected from strikes. An athlete uses a T shaped stance while performing a slow and controlled block in a kata. Maintaining a straight back is essential for keeping the body balanced in such a narrow and upright position. Correct foot placement ensures that the practitioner can change directions without tripping over their own feet in practice.
