Morote Uchi Meaning in Karate

Morote Uchi is a double handed karate strike that involves attacking with both fists at the same time. The practitioner drives both arms forward or to the side to hit different parts of the opponent’s body. This technique is designed to increase the chances of landing a hit through a busy defensive guard. It can also be used to push an opponent back while simultaneously causing damage with the knuckles. The force of the strike comes from the legs and the hips pushing the entire body forward into the target. An athlete delivers a double chest strike to a partner during a controlled power development exercise in class. Keeping the shoulders down prevents the arms from becoming tense and slowing down the speed of the attack. Proper breathing at the moment of impact helps to focus the energy of both hands into the target.
