Ren Zuki is a karate combination that consists of two consecutive punches delivered in very rapid succession. The practitioner strikes once with the lead hand and immediately follows with a punch from the rear hand. This sequence is designed to overwhelm the defender and break through their guard with continuous pressure. The second punch usually carries more power because it benefits from the full rotation of the body. Speed and rhythm are the most important factors for making this combination effective in a sparring match. A student throws a quick one two punch combination during a fast paced sparring round in class. Keeping the first punch light allows the second punch to be much faster and more accurate. This technique teaches the student how to link individual movements into a single flowing attack.
