Ko Uchi Gari is a karate grappling technique known as the minor inner reaping or foot clip. The practitioner uses their foot to clip the inside of the opponent’s heel from the center. This action pushes the leg outward and causes the attacker to lose their vertical body balance. It is often used when the two fighters are in a close clinching or grabbing position. The move requires a quick and sharp snapping motion of the leg to be successful. A student clips the inner heel of a partner to set up a follow up punch. Keeping the hands high during the sweep protects the head from any desperate counter strikes. This technique works best when the opponent has a wide and static leg stance.
