Encho Sen Meaning in Karate

Encho Sen is a term in karate that refers to an extension or an extra round. This occurs when a match remains tied even after the judges have tried to make a decision. The competitors must fight for an additional period of time to break the deadlock between them. The first person to score a point in this extra time is often declared the winner. It tests the stamina and the mental toughness of both athletes at the end of a round. An athlete lands a decisive punch during the overtime period to win the entire match. Conserving energy during the regular round ensures that enough power remains for the extra time. High level focus is required to avoid making a tired mistake during the final seconds.
