Pinan Yondan Meaning in Karate

Pinan Yondan is the fourth form in the peaceful mind series and focuses on flow and rhythm. This pattern introduces more athletic techniques such as the knee strike and the cross arm block. It uses a variety of different stances to teach students how to adapt to changing distances. The movements transition from slow and controlled to very fast and explosive during the performance. Practitioners must maintain their focus to coordinate the complex hand and foot movements accurately in sequence. An athlete performs a double arm block followed by a front kick in a match. Staying light on the feet allows the student to move between stances with more agility. This form emphasizes the importance of using the entire body to redirect an attack.
