Rings L-Sit Meaning in Gymnastics

A rings L-sit is a strength hold where the body forms a letter L. The gymnast supports the body with straight arms on the hanging rings. The athlete lifts the legs until they are parallel to the floor. The legs must stay perfectly straight and pressed together during the hold. The gymnast must keep the torso upright and the head facing forward. This move must stay still for at least two full seconds for credit. A gymnast performs an L-sit to demonstrate core strength and control. The athlete must squeeze the abdominal muscles to keep the legs at hip height. Keeping the shoulders down and the neck long creates a clean look. The gymnast must point the toes to show a finished and professional line. Judges check for a ninety degree angle between the torso and the legs. This move is a fundamental strength requirement for all levels of rings. Strong triceps help the athlete maintain a locked arm position during the hold. The gymnast must avoid any shaking or swinging of the rings while sitting. Consistent practice allows the athlete to hold the position without the legs dropping.
