Uneven Bars Healy Twist Meaning in Gymnastics

The Healy twist involves a full rotation of the body during a handstand swing. The gymnast turns three hundred sixty degrees while supported by only one arm. This skill happens very quickly as the gymnast moves through the vertical position. Excellent shoulder stability helps the gymnast balance during the fast one arm turn. One competitor used a Healy twist to transition between bars during a meet. The gymnast must maintain a straight body line to prevent any form deductions. Judges check for a completed rotation before the second hand touches the bar. A strong push from the first hand provides the lift for the turn. This move demonstrates high levels of coordination and timing on the high bar. The gymnast looks at the bar to prepare for the regrasp after turning. Sharp focus prevents the athlete from falling during this very technical bar skill. Most gymnasts use the Healy twist to connect into other difficult release moves. The body stays tight to minimize air resistance during the quick twisting motion.
