Court awareness is the ability to know your exact position on court. A player feels where the boundaries are without looking at the lines. This sense helps a player decide which shots to hit or leave. It also involves knowing the position of the opponent at all times. Good awareness prevents a player from hitting shuttlecocks that are going out. A deep shot flies over the head of a defending player. The player knows they are near the line and lets it fall. The shuttlecock lands out of bounds and the player wins the point. Practicing on different courts helps develop this natural sense of space and distance. Looking up frequently allows a player to track the movement of the opponent. High court awareness reduces the mental effort required during a fast match.
