Back Mount Meaning in Mixed Martial Arts

Back mount describes a dominant ground position where a fighter controls the opponent from behind. The controlling fighter places both legs around the opponent waist area. Those legs hook inside the opponent thighs for strong control. Fighters call those hooks important anchors for maintaining position. The attacker chest stays tight against the opponent back. Tight connection prevents the opponent from escaping easily. Fighters also control the opponent upper body using arm grips. One arm usually wraps around the opponent neck area. The second arm controls the opponent defending hands. This position limits the opponent ability to face the attacker. Facing away prevents effective striking defense. Fighters often attack submissions from this dominant position. Rear chokes frequently begin from back mount control. The attacker maintains balance using strong hip pressure.
