Advantage happens right after deuce when one player wins the next point. That player stands one point away from winning the game. However, they still need one more point to finish it. If they lose the next point, the score returns to deuce.
The advantage shows who currently controls the game. It can quickly change with one mistake. For example, a player wins a long rally at deuce. The umpire calls an advantage for that player. If they win the next point, they take the game. Advantage moments require calm decision-making under pressure.
