An angle drop is a soft shot that lands near the kitchen line and moves sideways. This move forces the opponent to run forward and toward the sideline to reach the ball. A player hits a gentle shot that bounces short and spins away from the center court. This technique stops the opponent from hitting a powerful return by keeping the ball very low. Successful drops require a loose grip and a lifting motion to clear the net safely. This shot transitions the player from a defensive position to an offensive one near the net. Using this tactic effectively draws the opponent out of their comfortable defensive stance near the baseline. Soft contact with the ball ensures it stays within the non-volley zone after the initial bounce.
