Attitude Meaning in Gymnastics

An attitude is a position where a gymnast stands on one bent leg. The athlete lifts the other leg and bends it at a clear angle. This lifted leg stays turned out so the knee points toward the side. The gymnast can hold this position while standing still or during a turn. A slight bend in the lifted knee distinguishes this from other leg extensions. The gymnast keeps the torso tall and the arms in a rounded shape. This pose demonstrates the flexibility and artistic control of the gymnastics performer. A gymnast holds an attitude pose on the balance beam to finish a routine. The supporting leg must stay strong to keep the athlete from wobbling or falling. Focusing on a single point in the distance helps the gymnast maintain steady balance. The lifted knee should remain at hip height or higher for a better score. This position often appears during slow and lyrical parts of a floor exercise. Strong glute muscles help the athlete hold the heavy leg in the air. Proper turnout from the hip joint creates a professional and clean aesthetic line. The gymnast must point the toes of the lifted foot to complete the look.
