Away swing is a delivery where the ball curves through the air, moving away from the batter’s body after release. Fast bowlers achieve this by tilting the seam and keeping the polished side of the ball facing the leg side. Example: The opening bowler produced a massive amount of away swing that beat the batter’s outside edge by several inches.
Pro-Tip: This is the most dangerous delivery for top-order batters because it lures them into playing at balls they should probably leave alone. Also, the late movement in the air makes it nearly impossible for a player to adjust their bat in time.
