A back row attack happens when a back row player jumps to hit. The player must take off from behind the attack line. This rule keeps front and back roles balanced. Back row attacks add variety to offense. Therefore, defenses must watch more hitters.
Timing becomes very important. However, stepping on the line causes a fault. For example, a setter sends a high ball to the back. The back row hitter jumps legally and spikes hard. The ball lands inside the court. The point counts as a back row attack.
