Bail Meaning in Surfing

To bail means to jump off the board before a crash happens. This is a safety decision made when a fall is completely unavoidable. The surfer kicks the board away to prevent it from hitting them. Bailing helps the athlete dive deep under the energy of the crashing wave. This is a common action when a wave becomes too steep or heavy. A surfer bails their board before a massive lip hits the surface water. Holding the breath and staying calm is essential after jumping into the surf. One rider jumps into the water to avoid a collision with the reef. Bailing should only be done when it is safe for other nearby surfers. Protecting the body is the main priority when a ride goes wrong today.
