Blown out occurs when strong winds make the waves unrideable. This is an extreme version of onshore or messy surfing conditions. The wind is so powerful that it flattens the waves completely. Large amounts of whitewater cover the entire surface of the ocean. It is nearly impossible to paddle out or catch any waves. Surfers avoid the beach when the report says it is blown out. A surfer looks at the white capped ocean from the parking lot. The wind howls across the sand and destroys every wave peak. One person decides to wait for the wind to stop blowing. A blown out day usually means the surfing session is over.
