A body lock is a tight grip around your opponent’s torso. You wrap both arms around their waist or upper body. Your hands lock together to secure control.
This position limits their movement. It often sets up throws or trips. Strong hip pressure adds power to the hold. Balance becomes harder for the opponent. You stay chest to chest or slightly to the side.
For example, a wrestler secures a body lock from standing. He lifts and brings the opponent to the mat for control. The referee awards a takedown. Body locks create close, powerful attacks. Proper grip strength makes them effective.
