A boundary rider is a fielder stationed near the edge of the playing field. This player stands very close to the rope to prevent four runs. Their primary job involves chasing the ball and throwing it back quickly. They must cover a large area of ground with great speed and agility. This position requires a strong throwing arm to reach the wicketkeeper accurately. These fielders often slide or dive to stop the ball from crossing line. This role is common during the middle and final overs of the game. A fielder sprints fifty meters to stop a ball on the boundary edge. Athleticism and stamina are the most important physical traits for this specific role. Placing fast runners in these spots saves many runs for the bowling team.
