Brakeman Meaning in Ice Hockey

A brakeman is the last defender back during an offensive rush. This player stays near the blue line to prevent fast breaks. Their role is to stop any sudden counter attacks by opponents. If a teammate loses the puck, the brakeman slows them down. This position provides a safety net for the entire hockey team. They must be prepared to skate backward at a high speed. The brakeman stayed back to stop the two on one rush. This player often directs the other defenders from the back area. Safety is the main priority for someone playing as the brakeman. They rarely join the deep attack to stay in good position. Keeping an eye on the whole ice helps the brakeman react. Every good offensive play needs a reliable brakeman for defensive balance.
