Break Serve Meaning in Volleyball

A break serve is a serve that directly wins a point or forces a weak return. This serve breaks the opponent’s momentum. Therefore, pressure increases.

Beginners may confuse it with an ace. A break serve may still allow a return. During a set, the server targets a weak passer. The serve causes a poor pass. The opponent sends a free ball back. The serving team scores on the next attack.

The serve created the point. Break serves swing momentum quickly. Coaches value them highly. Controlled aggression produces effective break serves. They separate good servers from average ones.
