Bumper Plates Meaning in Weightlifting

Bumper plates are heavy discs made of thick rubber designed for Olympic style weightlifting. These specialized weights protect the floor and the equipment when a lifter drops the bar. Unlike iron plates, these rubber discs bounce slightly instead of breaking upon high impact. Every plate has the same diameter regardless of its total weight in kilograms. This uniform size ensures the barbell always sits at the same height from the ground. Beginners use these plates to practice explosive movements without fear of damaging the gym. A lifter drops a loaded bar from overhead after completing a successful heavy snatch. Choosing high quality plates ensures the center metal rings do not become loose over time.
