A burp occurs when a tubeless tire momentarily loses its seal with the rim. This usually happens during a hard turn or a heavy landing on a mountain bike. When the tire wall bends too much, a small amount of air and sealant escapes. You will often hear a distinct burping sound as the pressure drops suddenly. This can make the bike feel wobbly and difficult to steer until you add more air. Using wider rims or higher tire pressure can help prevent this from happening. It is a common issue for riders who like to run very low tire pressures for better grip. If the tire burps too much, the bead might come off the rim entirely. For example, a rider leans hard into a rocky corner and hears their front tire burp. They have to stop and use a hand pump to restore the pressure before continuing the trail. It is a minor technical glitch that comes with using tubeless technology.
