A call shot is a rule where you must announce your target ball and pocket beforehand. You must state clearly which ball you are hitting and where you intend it to go. If the ball goes into a different pocket, it does not count and your turn ends. This rule is used to eliminate luck and ensure that every score is intentional. It is standard in games like ten-ball and many versions of competitive eight-ball. You do not usually need to call obvious straight-in shots, but it is good practice. If you are using a bank or a combination, you must definitely call it out. For example, a player points to the far corner and says seven ball in the corner. If the seven ball goes in exactly there, they continue their turn at the table. This adds a layer of professionalism and clarity to every match you play. It proves that you are in total control of your performance.
