Center Coverage Meaning in Pickleball

Center coverage refers to the strategy of defending the middle area of the pickleball court. Partners must decide who hits balls that fly directly between them during a fast point. Covering the middle prevents opponents from winning points with easy shots through the gap. One partner reaches into the middle to hit a ball traveling toward the center line. Teams often give the player with the forehand the responsibility to cover this central space. Effective positioning in the middle forces the other team to hit toward the difficult sidelines. Strong coordination ensures that no ball ever falls untouched between the two defending partners.
