The center is the player who plays the middle forward position. This athlete is responsible for both offensive and defensive duties on ice. Centers typically take the face offs at the start of every play. They must be excellent skaters with high levels of physical endurance. A center links the defensemen with the two wingers during an attack.
These players often lead the team in assists and total points. The center won the face off and passed the puck to defense. Playing center requires a deep understanding of the entire hockey game. They must support the defensemen deep in their own end of rink.
On offense, the center sets up plays from the middle area. Most successful teams build their roster around a very strong center. This position is often considered the most difficult forward role to play.
