Center-to-Center Meaning in Billiards

Center-to-center is a method of describing the alignment between the cue ball and the object ball. It means the center of the white ball is aimed directly at the center of the target ball. This results in a ‘full hit,’ where the object ball travels in a perfectly straight line from the impact. This is the simplest shot to visualize but is only used when the ball and pocket are perfectly aligned. Any deviation from center-to-center will result in an angled shot or a ‘cut.’ For example, a player uses a center-to-center aim to knock a straight-in shot into the corner pocket. This ensures all the energy travels forward, making the shot very easy and predictable. It is the baseline for all aiming systems used in the sport.
