Clean Pull Meaning in Weightlifting

The clean pull is a training drill that emphasizes the upward drive of a clean. The athlete pulls the barbell from the floor with maximum power and speed. They extend their hips and shrug their shoulders but do not catch the weight. This exercise allows lifters to use more weight than they can actually clean. It builds the necessary strength to pull heavy loads during a full competition. The bar should travel in a straight vertical path close to the body. A lifter performs three sets of this move to improve their explosive finish. Keeping the arms straight until the peak of the shrug ensures maximum power.
