Clock Meaning in Weightlifting

The clock in weightlifting tracks the time an athlete has to start their lift. Each lifter typically receives one minute to approach the platform and begin. The timer starts as soon as the loaders finish preparing the barbell. If an athlete follows themselves they usually receive an extra minute of rest. Failing to start the lift before the clock hits zero results in a loss. This system keeps the competition moving at a steady and predictable pace. A lifter watches the digital display to time their final warm up sets. Stepping onto the platform early helps the athlete settle their breathing before lifting.
