Competition Platform Meaning in Weightlifting

The competition platform is a flat wooden surface where an athlete performs their lifts. This square area usually measures four meters by four meters in a standard meet. The wood provides a stable and non slip grip for the lifting shoes. A solid rubber border often surrounds the wooden center to absorb heavy impacts. Lifters must remain inside the white lines of the platform during the lift. Stepping off the edge before the down signal results in a failed attempt. An athlete walks to the center of the wood to find their footing. Keeping the feet within the boundary ensures the referees can see the full movement.
