Cool Down Meaning in Swimming

Cool down refers to a period of slow swimming following a hard race or workout. This activity helps the body recover by flushing out lactic acid from the muscles. Athletes perform gentle strokes to lower their heart rate back to a normal level. Skipping this step can lead to muscle stiffness and poor performance in later races. A swimmer completes four hundred meters of easy backstroke after finishing a fast sprint. Coaches insist on a proper cool down to prepare the body for the next day. This recovery phase usually takes place in a separate pool dedicated to slow swimming. Maintaining good technique during this easy swimming aids in long-term muscle health and growth.
