Corner-hooked is a specific situation where a corner of a pocket blocks your shot. Even though the balls are in a straight line, the pocket edge is in the way.
This prevents you from making direct contact with your intended target ball. It is a very common way to be snookered during a tight match. You are forced to bounce the cue ball off a rail to reach the target. This happens most often when a ball is tucked deep into the rail’s corner.
For example, a player tries to hit a red ball but finds they are corner-hooked. The cue ball is so close to the pocket that the rubber edge blocks the path. They must now try a difficult kick shot to avoid committing a foul. Recognizing these tight angles helps you avoid getting yourself in trouble. It is a vital part of understanding the table’s physical limits.
