A croupier is an official who helps manage the game, usually by returning balls to the table or keeping score. While more common in casino games, the term is sometimes used in traditional billiards for the person handling the equipment. They use a long stick, also called a rake, to move balls without touching them by hand. The croupier ensures that the table stays clean and that the game moves along at a good pace. For example, the croupier uses their stick to pull the pocketed balls out and place them in the rack. This role allows the players to focus entirely on their performance and strategy. It adds a touch of formal tradition to high-level billiards matches. You will mostly see this in formal clubs or professional snooker events.
