Cut Meaning in Handball

A cut is a sharp and sudden movement by an attacker toward the goal. The player moves without the ball to find an open space in the defense. Cuts usually happen at high speed to catch the defending players off guard. A successful cut allows the player to receive a pass in a scoring position. This movement requires the attacker to read the gaps in the defensive formation. An offensive player cuts toward the six meter line to receive a lob. This action draws the attention of multiple defenders and creates space for others. Mastering the timing of a cut is vital for every high level attacker. Players often use a body feint before starting their cut to increase effectiveness. A well timed cut often results in an uncontested shot at the goal.
