Deep mid wicket is a fielding position located far out on the boundary on the leg side of the batter. Fielders stand in this area to catch long, powerful hits and to stop the ball from crossing the rope for four or six runs.
Example: The batter smashed a high pull shot, but the fielder at deep mid wicket stayed calm and took a perfect catch.
Pro-Tip: This is one of the most active spots on the field during the middle overs of a game because many players naturally hit the ball in this direction. Therefore, captains usually place their fastest and most reliable catchers here to minimize the scoring.
