Deep Point Meaning in Cricket

Deep point is a fielding position located near the off side boundary rope. This fielder stands far back to stop balls hit hard and wide. Their primary responsibility involves preventing four runs from being scored by the batsman. This position covers the area behind the square on the off side field. The fielder must be very fast to cover the large open space. They often have to chase the ball for long distances toward the fence. This spot is common when a fast bowler is bowling very wide. A fielder at deep point stops a powerful cut shot for one. A strong throwing arm is essential to return the ball to keeper.
