A dive code is a four-digit or five-digit number identifying a maneuver. The first digit always tells which group the dive belongs to. The second digit indicates whether the dive has a flying start style. The third digit shows the total number of half-somersaults being performed. A fourth digit is added only if the dive includes a twist. This shorthand system allows officials to communicate complex moves very quickly. One example of a dive code is 107B for a specific dive.
