A down block is a defensive move against a shot. You use your hands or forearms to block the attack downward. This stops your opponent’s forward drive. It keeps their head and shoulders low. Good down blocks create space to move. You often combine it with a sprawl. Quick reaction is very important. Balance must stay strong during contact. For example, a wrestler shoots toward the legs. The defender down blocks and pushes the head down. The attack loses power and control. Down blocks prevent clean entries. Fast hands improve defense.
