The drop snatch is a training exercise that improves speed and footwork. The athlete starts with the barbell resting on their shoulders behind the neck. They quickly drop into a deep squat while punching the bar overhead. This move does not involve a dip or a drive from the legs. It teaches the lifter how to move their body under the weight fast. This drill builds confidence for catching a heavy snatch in a low position. A lifter performs three sets of five repetitions to warm up their shoulders. Staying tight in the bottom of the squat ensures the weight remains stable.
