An exhibition swim is a race where the athlete’s time does not count. The swimmer participates in the heat but cannot earn points or medals. Teams use these spots to give more athletes a chance to compete. The official results will mark these entries with a specific letter or symbol. A senior swimmer races in a lane but does not score points. This allows swimmers to practice their racing skills in a real meet environment. Sometimes swimmers enter an event as exhibition to try a new stroke technique. It provides a low pressure way to gain experience during a regular dual meet.
