A face pass in volleyball happens when the ball hits a player’s face during a pass. This usually results from a late reaction or poor positioning. Face passes rarely produce controlled plays.
They often send the ball off target. Players learn to move their feet early to avoid them. Proper platform angle prevents these mistakes.
Coaches stress eye tracking and balance. However fast serves still causes accidents. For example, a jump serve rockets toward a passer. He reacts late. The ball strikes his face. It rebounds out of bounds. The rally ends because of a face pass.
