Fast Drop Meaning in Badminton

A fast drop is a deceptive shot that falls near the net. The player uses a fast swing to mimic a powerful smash hit. At the last moment they slow the racket to drop it. This shot travels more quickly than a standard slow drop shot. It aims to land between the front and middle of the court. A player jumps as if they are hitting a very hard smash. The shuttlecock instead travels flat and fast just over the net tape. The opponent stays back because they expected a much deeper attacking shot. Using the same arm speed for all shots hides the true intent. This shot works best when the opponent is standing deep in court. Precision and deception make the fast drop a very effective scoring weapon.
