Feet planted describes a situation where a batter does not move their legs when playing a cricket shot. The player stays in their original stance instead of stepping toward or away from the oncoming ball. This lack of movement often makes it difficult to reach balls that are far from the body. Beginners often struggle with this habit because they feel more stable with their feet firmly on the ground. A batter stands still while the ball passes wide and they miss the shot by many inches. Moving the feet helps the batter get into the correct position to control the direction of the ball. Standing with feet planted reduces the power and reach a player can use during an aggressive swing. Good players learn to dance on their feet to adjust to different speeds and angles of bowling. Proper footwork remains the most important part of learning how to bat effectively and safely.
