Finger Stall Meaning in Softball

A finger stall is an individual leather sleeve inside a softball glove for one finger. These internal compartments keep the hand of the player steady during a fast catch. Most gloves have five stalls to match the natural shape of a human hand. Proper fit in the stalls allows for better control of the glove pocket. An outfielder slides their index finger into the designated stall for a firm grip. This positioning helps the player squeeze the glove shut when the ball hits. Some players put two fingers in one stall to create a deeper pocket. This adjustment helps with catching high fly balls that might otherwise pop out.
