Floating delivery describes a slow ball that seems to hang in the air longer than the batter expects. Spinners create this effect by tossing the ball high so it follows a steep and curved path. This flight path tricks the batter into thinking the ball will land in a different spot. The slow speed of the ball forces the player to wait and ruins their natural hitting rhythm. A spin bowler tosses the ball high and the batter misses because the ball drops very late. This technique requires great control to ensure the ball still lands on the target after its long flight.
