A roundoff back tuck full twist is a spinning backward flip. The gymnast performs a roundoff to create speed and backward moving power. The athlete then jumps into a backward flip with the knees tucked. While rotating backward, the gymnast also spins one full circle sideways. This skill requires the athlete to manage two different types of rotation. The body must remain in a tight ball to spin very fast. A gymnast executes this move to add difficulty to a tumbling pass. The athlete must use the shoulders to initiate the fast sideways spin. Keeping the knees tucked tightly helps the body rotate much faster. The gymnast must finish the twist before the feet touch the mat. Judges look for a full three hundred sixty degree rotation in air. This move shows the coordination and the power of the elite gymnast. Strong abdominal muscles help the athlete snap into the tuck quickly. The gymnast lands on both feet while facing the original starting direction. Precise spatial awareness is vital for finishing the twist at the peak.
