Free Hit Meaning in Cricket

A free hit is a special penalty delivery awarded to the batting team after the bowler throws a front-foot ‘no ball.’ During this delivery, the batter cannot be out by most traditional methods, such as being caught or bowled, allowing them to swing with total freedom.

Example: The batter took full advantage of the free hit by smashing the ball over the bowler’s head for a massive six.

Pro-Tip: The only ways to get out on a free hit are through rare methods like being run out or hitting the ball twice. Therefore, batters almost always attempt their most aggressive and risky power shots because there is virtually no penalty for missing the ball.
