Game Ball Meaning in Dodgeball

A game ball refers to a ball that is currently live and in play. This term distinguishes active equipment from balls that are dead or sitting out of bounds. A player picks up a ball from the ground to make it a live weapon.

Only a game ball can eliminate an opponent or be caught for a teammate’s return. Once a ball hits the floor or a wall it becomes a dead ball. Players must reactivate the ball by bringing it back behind the designated attack line first.

Understanding the status of each ball helps a player manage their offensive and defensive choices. Keeping track of game balls allows a team to control the rhythm of the match.
