Gap targeting involves throwing a ball into the empty spaces between two defending players. This strategy aims to hit people who are not expecting a ball in their area. A thrower spots a hole in the defensive line and fires the ball through. This move often confuses defenders as they both reach for the same incoming ball simultaneously. Hits occur when a defender hesitates or assumes their teammate will handle the catch. Precise accuracy is required to hit the narrow windows of space between the opposing athletes. Teams use this to break up tight formations that are otherwise very difficult to penetrate. Success depends on the thrower’s ability to see small openings in the opposing team’s wall.
