Gekisai Dai Ni is the second smashing form and introduces open hand techniques and circular blocks. This pattern is similar to the first version but requires more fluidity and complex hand coordination. It teaches the practitioner how to deflect an attack and then grab the opponent for a counter. The form uses a combination of hard linear strikes and softer circular defensive movements for a balance. Students learn to transition between the deep front stance and the more mobile cat foot stance. An athlete uses a circular palm block to redirect a strike during a formal belt examination. Staying relaxed during the circular motions allows the hands to move with greater speed and precision. This form develops the versatility needed to handle a wide range of different attacking styles.
